Cheerleading

The Freedom Valley YMCA is proud to offer two Cheer Programs that teach more than just how to stunt and cheer. The true value of the Freedom Valley YMCA Cheerleading Program lies in the social skills and self-confidence the girls gain and their ability to persevere and work as a team.

Recreational Cheerleading
The teams are split up by ages
White team (ages 4-6)
Red team (ages 7 & up)

During the regular season, each cheerleader will learn 15-20 chants and a dance. The older squad will also try to work in some beginning/intermediate stunts. The girls receive a YMCA cheer t-shirt to keep.

At the end of the season, both the younger and older squads will come together for an Exhibition. We invite parents/families/friends to join us for a demonstration of what they learned during the season.

  • Girls cheer for the fall and/or spring youth sports seasons
  • The Cheerleaders cheer for a different YMCA team each week and usually go out onto the field at half-time to perform a cheer, stunt, or dance.
  • Games are held on Saturdays (games are approximately 1 hour long.)
  • Each season runs 10 weeks long during which the squads will meet 2 times per week: Once for practices at the Audubon YMCA and once for games

Competition Squad (Ages 8 and up)
The YMCA Owls, now in their 4th season, are an award winning Cheerleading squad based out of the Audubon YMCA. Girls work for approximately 6 months learning dances, cheers and stunts forming a routine and competing.

Typically the team competes in 4 to 5 competitions per year which are held on weekends. Practices begin in October and competitions generally go from February-March.

Examples of past competition locations are: Kennedy Kendrick High School, Interboro High School, Garnet Valley High School, Central Bucks HS and West Chester High School.

This is an invite-only squad. The pre-requisite for being selected is prior cheer experience, enthusiasm for the sport, and willingness to give 100% toward working as a team. Invitations are often given to YMCA cheerleaders from the recreational cheerleading team. If you have a child who is interested in cheering and is willing to demonstrate her/his skill level, email us today. We do not do try outs, but we would like to see a demonstration of skills before invites are sent out.
